Fairbanks Directory
Located 358 miles north of Anchorage, Fairbanks is the second largest city in Alaska with over 80,000 residents calling the greater Fairbanks area home. Located close to the confluence of the Tanana and Chena Rivers and in the Interior of Alaska, Fairbanks appreciates long summer days with temperatures reaching ninety degrees. Gardening is big in the Fairbanks area due to the lovely summer climate. During the winter season though, temperature jump right down to sixty-five degrees below zero!
Take a trip to Fairbanks in winter to experience Alaska to its fullest. Events such as aurora borealis (“the northern lights”) and dogsledding are at their best in the wintertime. You’ll also find that winter rates are lower than summer rates as well.
Fairbanks is located less than 200 miles south of the Arctic Circle where the sun doesn’t set during the summer solstice nor does it rise during the winter equinox. For this reason, Fairbanks enjoys long summer days and extremely short winter days (some, around June 21, give only three hours of sunlight).
